INSTANT POT
Instant Pot created an iconic, innovative product in 2009 by developing a unique technology that made cooking easy, simple and convenient. Now their product is in millions of homes around the world and that number is only growing. On Amazon Prime Day in 2016, InstantPot was the No 1 best selling non-Amazon product in the US.
THE CHALLENGE
Instant Pot was running on a complex system of eCommerce and 3rd party applications that added huge operating costs from a technology perspective. They used Drupal and Salesforce to host their website, along with several other third party applications that were a constant drain on resources and money.
Coming out of their recent acquisition, Instant Pot was interested in separating their website from their previous parent company while unifying their 2 eCommerce platforms into 1. They also came to DEMAND with a goal to reduce their technical debt, reduce subscription and support costs, streamline their operations, and make the site better from an end user perspective.
“Instead of focusing on running the business, we were focusing on keeping the platform alive. It was expensive, cumbersome, and difficult just to maintain poor performance.”
To show Instant Brands what the Shopify platform was capable of, DEMAND quickly loaded the entire Instant Pot website into their DemandOne theme on Shopify Plus for a quick demo. They walked Instant Pot through the new site, and showed them how easy it was to maintain in the Shopify admin portal.
RECIPE FINDER
Instant Pot was hosting their recipe finder in Wordpress on a separate domain from their ecommerce platform. DEMAND imported their recipes from Wordpress into Shopify, utilized Shopify’s native blog functionality to manage and display their recipes, deep linked them to the products on their site, and added recipes to their search results. Users landing on their delicious recipes page now see Instant Pot cookware product driving SEO to those pages.
DATA SYNC
Instant Pot turned off the ability for their customers to order on the website, however they chose to give their customer service reps the ability to place new orders and edit existing orders for customers directly in the Shopify Admin Portal. To synchronize data with all their other systems, they chose DemandSync to keep all their systems connected for order, customer, inventory and order statuses.
“Working with their data during the migration process was a rewarding challenge where a lot was learned. We were able to seamlessly transition the bulk of their product information, and with just a few minor adjustments, tailor the imports to meet the exact needs of Instant Pot during and after their split from Corelle.”
DATA MIGRATION
Getting Instant Pot’s data out of Salesforce Commerce Cloud and into Shopify was done quickly with DemandSync. This tool created the bridge between Shopify and Instant Pot's other systems. DemandSync imported all their product data before development even started.
LAST MINUTE SWITCH
What was initially built as a full international ecommerce website using Shopify Markets Pro, Geolocation, and several payment methods was changed the day before launch to remove all functionality related to online purchasing. This shift came from the new owner and their distribution plans. The site was launched the next day on schedule and on budget without issues.
VENDOR INTEGRATIONS
Instant Pot required only a select few 3rd party Shopify integrations to complete their website saving them quite a bit in subscription costs. These were customized as needed and integrated by DEMAND.
"A big takeaway from this project is how quickly we are able to prototype, demo and implement a website on Shopify with all the tools we have available."
CONCLUSION
